Bloomberg, a self-professed salt lover, announced Jan. 11 that he wants manufacturers to slash the sodium in a slew of products ranging from peanut butter (20 percent) to breakfast cereals (40 percent). The program is voluntary.
Americans eat double the amount of salt that they should, health officials say. Salt consumption can lead to high blood pressure, strokes and heart attacks.
