This just in: the people of Chicago generally don't like Milton Bradley. The oft-injured, mercurial outfielder signed a three-year, $30 million contract last offseason and drastically fell short of expectations both on and off the field. He was such a divisive presence in the locker room that Cubs general manager Jim Hendry had to suspend Bradley for the last few weeks of the season and traded him earlier this offseason. It would appear it wasn't just in the Cubs' clubhouse where Bradley was making enemies. According to a report from the Chicago Sun-Times, Bradley is being sued for skipping out on his rent. The owner of Park Hyatt condos, luxury living quarters on the famed "Magnificent Mile" on Chicago's Michigan Avenue, is suing Bradley for $44,100 in back rent and is also expecting Bradley to make the several remaining payments on his lease.
According to court documents, Bradley disappeared on Oct. 12 and stopped making rent payments. He has reportedly been sent letters demanding his payments and never replied or paid. He signed the lease on April 1, 2009.
No matter what happened, I think we can all be sure Bradley will say it wasn't his fault -- nothing ever is.
