Washington Redskins guard Chad Rinehart was arrested early Monday near his alma mater of Northern Iowa and charged with misdemeanor public intoxication. An officer with the Northern Iowa Police Department reportedly saw Rinehart attempting to enter Mojo's Pizza House at about 2 a.m. and asked him for his ID. The officer said he noticed the smell of alcohol on Rinehart's breath as they talked, and that Rinehart's eyes were bloodshot and he was swaying.
Rinehart refused to take a breath test and was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail. He has a court date in February.
From the sound of the report, Rinehart wasn't doing much more than having some beers and then going to get some pizza, but apparently the beers were enough to make the responding officer decide that Rinehart was too drunk to be in public. It's far from the most serious of charges, but also not a great first impression for Rinehart to make on his new boss, Mike Shanahan.
Rinehart is a second-year player who started four games in 2009.
