On his next-to-last night hosting The Tonight Show Thursday, Conan O'Brien said he wanted to waste as much of NBC's money as possible. So he showed what he said was Kentucky Derby-winning horse Mine That Bird watching restricted Super Bowl footage, at a cost of $4.8 million.

Some news outlets have taken the bit seriously, but let's be clear: It was just a joke.

That Super Bowl footage that Conan allegedly purchased using NBC's money wasn't from the Super Bowl at all. Todd Wright of Sporting News Radio pointed out on Twitter that it was actually a 1984 USFL game between the Tampa Bay Bandits and Houston Gamblers. And one would hope it goes without saying that Conan didn't really buy Mine That Bird.

But while that wasn't really Super Bowl footage, it was really funny. Enjoy Conan tonight. It's your last chance.
