Tom CableDespite weeks of speculation that he would be fired, Tom Cable will reportedly remain the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2010.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Raiders owner Al Davis has decided to bring Cable back.

Raiders spokesman John Herrera denied the ESPN report to the Associated Press.

"We've never made any statement that the head coach would not be back, that has been media speculation from the beginning," Herrera said in a statement Saturday night.

"We've consistently stated that we're going through an evaluation process to determine the direction that the organization needs to go. The process is ongoing and has not reached a conclusion."

Schefter's report indicates that Davis will allow Cable to coach for the remainder of his contract, which has one more year left on it.

The big question now is what Cable and Davis will do with quarterback JaMarcus Russell. Davis made the decision to choose Russell with the first pick in the 2007 NFL draft, and although nearly everyone who watches football thinks that decision was a mistake, Davis apparently still believes Russell has the potential to be a star.

Will Russell be the starter? Or will Cable, who has suggested that the Raiders would have been in the playoffs with a better quarterback, put someone else in the starting lineup? That's the most pressing issue for Cable as the head coach in 2010.
