Video: Red Wings Fans Hang From Arena Rafters

We all know that the fans in Detroit have been a bit perturbed by some of the ridiculous goal calls that haven't gone in their favor recently. I'm not sure if this is related in any way -- it probably isn't -- but someone needs to tell three Wings fans that going up into the rafters at Joe Louis Arena isn't exactly a very safe (or effective) form of protest.

On Saturday, the Los Angeles Kings were in Detroit to take on the Wings. At the end of the second intermission an entire section of the arena had to be cleared out since three clowns had made their way into the rafters, a la Jean Claude Van Damme in Sudden Death. The main difference is that was a movie and this is, you know, real life.

There hasn't been any information as to why these fans went up into the rafters to begin with, or any punishment they may have received. Here's what happened according to the Detroit News:
And what about those fans on the catwalk? Three fans somehow found their way into a restricted area on the fifth floor of the arena. Two of them were captured on the catwalk and escorted to safety. Another climbed up onto a conduit one level higher, then seemed to panic a bit. It took a while to bring him down.

The fans in Section 124, directly below the three fans, were ushered back to their seat midway through the third period.
And by "escorted to safety," I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that is a nice way of saying "arrested."
