Raiders Hire Hue Jackson as Coordinator
ESPN's Michael Smith and Fox Sports' Jay Glazer are both reporting that Jackson, previously the Baltimore Ravens' quarterbacks coach, interviewed with Raiders owner Al Davis last week and agreed to run the team's offense.
Davis will no doubt want Jackson to work closely with quarterback JaMarcus Russell, who has been a bust since Davis took him with the first overall pick of the 2007 NFL draft. Davis apparently still thinks Russell has the talent to be an elite NFL quarterback, and Jackson has a good track record, having worked with Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco the last two years.
Most teams determine who their head coach is first, and then let the head coach hire his assistants. But the Raiders aren't like most teams. Although multiple reports have indicated that Cable will, in fact, remain as the team's head coach, the team is still saying that no final decision has been made.
The Ravens are now expected to reportedly considering either Al Saunders or former Redskins head coach Jim Zorn to take over the quarterback-coaching vacancy left by Jackson's departure.
