Without eggheads all we'd know is that Drew Brees is one of the best quarterbacks on the planet. But thanks to the nerds at Sports Science, we now have definitive proof that Brees is more accurate than Olympic archers. The YouTube evidence is from last April, but the Discover Magazine blog posted a link to it yesterday since there's apparently a big tackle football game this weekend.
(I recommend watching the whole thing, although if you're just interested in watching Brees hit a really small target with the nose of the football, fast-forward to the 4:05 mark.)
The takeaway (other than confirming what we all knew -- Josh McCown barely completes half his throws): Brees' consistency is what separates him from the average NFL quarterback in much the same way a golfer's ability to replicate his swing under pressure is often the difference between winning tournaments and spending every offseason at Q School.
So accuracy is good. Got it. Unfortunately, while Dwight Freeney will be limited, the Colts defense is slightly more mobile than the cardboard cutout Brees wore out during the experiment. On the upside, this scientifically verifies that Brees is a much better quarterback than Peyton Manning.
