Tim Lincecum Isn't Angry With Giants

Tim LincecumSAN FRANCISCO -- If Tim Lincecum is really angry at the Giants for the way they've handled his contract, he at least knows better than to say so publicly.

Given the opportunity to respond to a report that he was upset with the lack of a deal as he comes closer to a potential arbitration hearing, Lincecum said all the right things.

"I try not to have any ill feelings about anything," Lincecum told reporters in a media session at AT&T Park on Friday afternoon. "I just try to come out here and the whole purpose is to help the team win. It's not about a grudge match."

Lincecum is the Big One in this year's arbitration class. The two-time Cy Young winner requested $13 million, which would be a record for a first-time, arbitration-eligible player, and the Giants offered $8 million. There apparently hasn't been much movement by either side, with a hearing looming.

Lincecum, who said his agent hasn't even told him the scheduled date of the hearing, said he's prepared to go before a panel of arbitrators and listen to the Giants argue that he's not worth as much as he thinks he is.

"Going through arbitration, everyone knows what can happen and that feelings can get hurt," Lincecum said. "I'm just trying to keep an open mind. If anyone knows my flaws, I do. If they are going to point them out and that has to happen, whatever. I know I have to get better. I don't feel like my feelings are hurt."

Lincecum added that he's tried "not to get too involved" in the process. "I try to let my agent do his job and I'll do mine."

Lincecum also addressed the possibility that the Giants could bring up his marijuana arrest.

"If they do, I just know that's one thing I said I will not let happen again," he said. "It's in my past. I'll move on. I feel I've made a step forward from it and I've become a better person from it. I'm going to stop making stupid decisions."
