Google Chairman Eric Schmidt tweeted the news yesterday: "Can't wait to watch the Superbowl tomorrow. Be sure to watch the ads in the 3rd quarter (someone said 'Hell has indeed frozen over.')
Yep, it sounds like Google has a Super Bowl commercial. That's somewhat surprising since Schmidt once declared that traditional advertising was "The last bastion of unaccountable spending in corporate America" (hence the "Hell has indeed frozen over" comment). Commence with the frittering away.
If you can't wait until the third quarter, here's a sneak peak at Google's ad.
The fact that, as I write this, the clip has nearly 1.2 million views makes me wonder why Google would fork over $2.5 million to run a spot that cost nothing to post on YouTube. (Answer: because $2.5 million is walking-around money to Larry and Sergey.)
Whatever, Slate.com kindly borrowed from Google's ad campaign to create this Onion-styled homage to the power of search.
