Following in the footsteps of mistress Brooke Hundley, former ESPN baseball analyst Steve Phillips took his story to the morning talk shows. Appearing Monday on The Today Show, Phillips talked about the devastating effects of sex addiction. Phillips was relieved of his ESPN duties shortly after Hundley, at the time a 22-year-old ESPN production assistant (she's no longer employed there, either), came forward about their illicit relationship. He later entered sex rehab to confront his problems and bared his soul on national television this morning.
"People look at sex addiction as an excuse; it's not an excuse. I'm fully responsible for everything that I did and accept responsibility for that," Phillips told Lauer in his first interview since leaving the Gentle Path sex addiction program at the same Mississippi treatment center that is said to have just finished treating Woods. ...Phillips has returned home but admits that he doesn't know what the future holds. His wife Marni filed for divorce last fall after 19 years and four kids. The couple is still together but Phillips conceded that "I'm working my tail off to try to save my marriage ... [but] I don't know what the ultimate result will be."
"I've broken my wife's heart," Phillips said. "I've damaged her and our relationship in a terrible way."
