DALLAS -- They don't play the same position, but Dallas forward Dirk Nowitzki will be replacing guard Kobe Bryant in the starting lineup for the Western Conference All-Star team Sunday night. With more than 80,000 fans -- many of them Texans -- to be watching live at Cowboys Stadium, Nowitzki made perfect sense. It's a fans' game anyway.
Bryant will miss the game with an ankle injury. Point guard Steve Nash will be in the lineup now with three forwards (Carmelo Anthony, Tim Duncan, Nowitzki) and a center/forward in Amare Stoudemire. Now that's a tough matchup.
Eastern Conference coach Stan Van Gundy will be using Hawks guard Joe Johnson as his replacement for Allen Iverson, who is missing the game for personal reasons.
Johnson will be starting alongside Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, Kevin Garnett and Dwight Howard.
"There are just so many good players in this game,'' Wade said. "That's why you love being part of it.''
