When the conversation wasn't about Peyton Manning's legacy or the Saints' destiny, the pre-championship-game talk mostly centered around Focus on the Family's controversial Super Bowl commercial featuring Tim Tebow.
So it's altogether surprising to learn that, according to the Nielsen Company, the spot finished 73rd out of 73 Super Bowl commercials. That's right: dead last.
Maybe it was because, despite the hype, the ad lacked controversy (the only thing I remember from the spot is that Tebow tackled his mom, Terry Tate style). Or maybe everybody was in the john. Whatever, more people saw the Sketchers spot.
The pro-life message prompted some women's groups to encourage CBS to drop their ad in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. Obviously, that didn't happen. Thankfully, Jimmy Kimmel crafted a response on their behalf (via Out of Bounds):
"They don't all turn out like Tim Tebow." Probably worth keeping in mind.
