'Iceholes' Greet Stephen Colbert in Vancouver

More than 5,000 "syrup-sucking iceholes" gathered at Creekside Park in Vancouver Wednesday morning to greet the documented Canadian-hating funnyman Stephen Colbert and join in the taping of his satirical news show, "The Colbert Report."

Colbert has famously described Canadians as "syrup suckers" and "iceholes" because of an alleged monopoly over practice time at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The faux-conservative comedian has rallied behind the U.S. Speedskating team, first becoming their official sponsor and now lending his expertise as their official Assistant Sports Psychologist. He's in Vancouver to make sure Canadians are playing fair.

"Welcome to the Olympic swamp!" Colbert quipped in reference to the marshy setting. "Isn't there anything else to do in Vancouver this week?"

The show was taped from a small stage outfitted with Canadiana that included a wooden totem pole, antique hockey sticks and skis, and of course, a stuffed, taxidermic moose.

Colbert's guests included Canadian singer Michael Buble and U.S. sports commentator Bob Costas, who took a determined ride on the moose.

Near the show's completion, with a stuffed beaver held high above his head, Colbert declared with gusto, "I take back everything I said about Canada!"

That's good news, but Canada's not off the hook yet. Colbert will be joining the U.S. speedskating team this afternoon as the official ombudsman for the Olympic Oval in Richmond.

If you missed today's taping, the Colbert Report will be filming again Thursday at the same time and location: 10 a.m. at Creekside Park next to Science World.
