Mike BrownCLEVELAND -- There's one NBA coach who has no problem with the rule that might allow the Cleveland Cavaliers to re-sign Zydrunas Ilgauskas.

That would be Mike Brown.

Of the Cavs.

"There's no rule that the NBA has in place right now that I have a problem with," Brown said. "I'm OK with all the rules."

Brown deadpanned the answer, but a close look showed a wry smile.

Brown knows he's in the minority among NBA coaches, or at least those who have voiced their opinion about the rule that would allow the Cavs to re-sign Ilgauskas if he takes a buyout from the Washington Wizards.

On Feb. 17, the day before the trading deadline, the Cavs sent Ilgauskas -- the team's all-time leader in games played -- to Washington for forward Antawn Jamison. Though nothing is set, the clear expectation around the league is that Ilguaskas will re-join the Cavs 30 days after he accepts a buyout from the Wizards. That buyout is expected to take place in the next day or two.

If Z re-signs it means it's possible the Cavs would have acquired Jamison for the 30th pick in the draft.

Among the coaches who have criticized the rule: Phil Jackson of the Los Angeles Lakers, Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics and, most recently, Stan Van Gundy of the Orlando Magic.

None quibbled with the Cavs' right to make it work, mind you, but all quibbled about the rule.

"I don't like the idea they could use Ilgauskas ... and it's selfish on my part ... to basically get Jamison for nothing,'' Van Gundy said. "The league needs to think about that, look at it, and I'm sure they will after so many questions have been raised. But that's the rule now.''

Brown shrugged. He never reads the paper or the internet during the season, but he'd been informed of the comments.

"I'm OK," he said.

OK with ... ?

"With those guys weighing in," he said, "and OK with the rule."

He then headed into the locker room to prepare for that night's game against New Orleans.
