Just about everything went right for Tracy McGrady in his debut with the Knicks on Saturday. He finished with 26 points, four rebounds, and five assists in just 32 minutes of action, as his team lost a thriller in overtime to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In his second game with the team, however, things couldn't have gone much worse.
On a night when the Knicks were honoring their 1970 championship team at halftime, the current group put up just 67 points in a dismal performance against the Bucks, and lost by 16. McGrady finished with just 15 points on 5-of-14 shooting, but that wasn't the worst of it: he limped to the bench with what appeared to be a knee injury when he was pulled from the game with a little more than three minutes to go.
McGrady was pulled with 3:38 left after injuring himself right before hitting a 3-pointer. After he limped to the bench, trainers wrapped his left knee -- the same knee that underwent microfracture surgery one year ago today. The scene did not look promising.McGrady said afterward that he "knocked knees" twice, and hoped that he wouldn't be too sore to give it a go against the Celtics on Monday. But on the second night of a back-to-back, and with the team having to travel, it's highly unlikely that they'd risk anything long term by trying to force McGrady to be ready for a game that, honestly, the Knicks aren't going to be winning, whether he plays in it or not.
