While John Smoltz may not be officially retired from the game of baseball yet, he hasn't been able to find a job on a major league team for 2010 either, though that doesn't mean he's completely unwanted. On Saturday morning there was a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that one team in particular was interested in Smoltz's ability to play for them. The Republicans.
Minutes after Georgia Congressman John Linder announced he wouldn't be seeking a 10th term in Washington, word started to spread that Smoltz would be someone the Republicans would turn to to take his place, news that caught Smoltz completely off guard.
When reached by text messages asking Smoltz about his newfound political plans, Smoltz responded by saying "this is not in my plans," which more than likely should kill any talk of Smoltz's possible run for office. At the same time, though, it also means that the Republicans haven't approached Smoltz to talk about it either.
After all, all Smoltz has gone on the record wth so far is that running for office isn't in his plans. He hasn't said he won't do it, so there's still a chance after talking with the Republicans, he may decide to give it a shot.Considering the district he'd be running in usually votes Republican and Smoltz's name recognition, he'd probably have a good shot at winning the seat.
