It really wasn't much of a game in Houston on Monday night, with the Rockets dropping the Raptors 116-92. The game wasn't nearly as close as the score would indicate. In fact, it seemed that the Rockets probably could have beat the Raptors with just their starting backcourt. Aaron Brooks dropped 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting and five 3-pointers in 30 minutes, while Kevin Martin matched him with 28 points of his own in 32 minutes. It was easy and breezy for the Rockets. David Andersen chipped in with 16 points of his own, dropping two 3-pointers and pulling down five rebounds in 23 minutes. Nothing doing for the Raptors on the defensive side of the ball.To their credit -- if you want to call it "credit" -- the Raptors were without Chris Bosh (ankle) and Jose Calderon (elbow). Both look like they could return later on in the week, but until then it's going to be a struggle for the Raptors. The starting five scored just 31 of the team's 92 points. I'd point you to a few of the bench's notable lines, but they were all garbage time stat-lines. The Raptors need Bosh back -- and badly -- seeing that they also lost Hedo Turkoglu in the second-half with a sore ankle. It's a great time to see the Raptors on your schedule.
The Knicks just continue to get blown out by the Cavaliers, no matter the venue. On Monday night the game was over at halftime as the Cavs went into the locker room with a 74-48 lead. It was so ugly that the Knicks had 74 points -- the Cavs halftime score -- on the scoreboard with five minutes remaining in the game. It was also so bad that Bill Walker led the Knicks with a career-high 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Hey, Walker could be an interesting add. Who knows with the way this Knicks team is playing which player will step up and get significant minutes.
J.J. Hickson started at center for Cleveland. He scored 17 points with nine rebounds, a steal and two blocks in 23 minutes. Anderson Varejao came off the bench to post 14 points and 10 rebounds in 16 minutes. Welcome to the post-Shaquille O'Neal era. Both players are worth waiver adds right now. Even though he didn't start, I actually trust Varejao much more than Hickson.
Dwight Howard once again was slowed by foul trouble. He managed to score 14 points and pull down just three rebounds in 24 minutes. What a disappointing week it's been for Howard! Jameer Nelson, on the other hand, continues to thrive since the All-Star break as he went for a team-high 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting, two 3-pointers, 10 assists, one steal and just one turnover against the 76ers. Nelson looks like a nice buy-low candidate right now.
Derrick Rose looked more like a two-guard than a point guard on Monday. He scored 24 points on 11-of-24 shooting, but also only provided three assists, zero rebounds, zero steals and zero blocks. Maybe he felt he needed to make up for Kirk Hinrich's 1-of-9 shooting performance. Whatever the case, it's a little concerning to see him look to create shots for himself and not look to distribute the ball to his teammates. We fantasy owners are looking for a complete player here.
Tyrus Thomas is enjoying his new home in Charlotte. On Monday he posted another double-double for the Bobcats, going for 16 points, 12 rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 29 minutes off the bench. He has blocked 19 shots in his last six games. No reason he's not universally owned.
Taj Gibson -- speaking of Ty Thomas -- double-doubled with 11 points, 13 rebounds and one block in 33 minutes. Considering both Joakim Noah (plantar faciitis) and Luol Deng (knee) were out of the lineup, Gibson did his best to carry the load in the paint against Josh Smith and the Hawks.
Jrue Holiday scored a career-high 23 points with five 3-pointer, six assists and two steals in 29 minutes. With Allen Iverson (personal) and Elton Brand (tendinitis) both out, Holiday stepped up and provided a nice boost to the 76ers offense. He's probably still just a deep-league add, but worth watching down the stretch.
Marcus Thornton scored 30 points on 12-of-19 shooting and six 3-pointers against the Spurs. This was the second 30-point game for the rookie in his last five games. No time to mess around here, you need to pick him up.
George Hill tried to match Thornton with his 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting and three treys. Hill is another great option off the wires. He is going to be the motor for the Spurs down the stretch. Right now Hill looks like the most solid option in San Antonio, given his skill and his age.
Nicolas Batum followed up his 31-point performance on Friday night with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, four 3-pointers, three rebounds, a steal and a block in 33 minutes. With Martell Webster being a non-factor, it looks like Batum could be a nice deep-league add from here on out. The one concern is that the Blazers have the absolute worst fantasy basketball playoffs schedule. Be careful with your Blazers as you make a playoff run.
Drew Gooden posted his second double-double in his last four games on Monday night -- 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting, 11 rebounds, one steal and one block in 38 minutes. He's worth owning in 12-team leagues right now.
