Gay Marriage Vote Puts Heat On Christie
Wednesday night No. 2 Kansas played No. 5 Kansas State. The Jayhawks dominated, winning the game 82-65 and locking up their sixth straight Big 12 title. The usual suspects sat courtside: Rich alums, former players, big donors, and ... a porn star. Yep, thanks to Kansas assistant coach Kurtis Townsend, the Jawhawks brought some extra heat to Allen Fieldhouse. How do we know? Because porn star, excuse us, porn thespian Samantha Ryan tweeted about who got her the tickets, posted photos of her floor view, and a photo posing with the Kansas Jayhawk mascot. Ryan, a native of Kansas, also tweeted that she was upset at ESPN for not carrying the game -- a view likely shared by many Jayhawk fans -- but she also took the time to thank Coach Townsend for the seats on her Twitter account: "So excited for my floor seats at the KU/KSU game! Coach Townsend kicks major a--! Rock Chalk Jayhawk Go KU!"
Such spirit is admirable. But, really, could you expect anything less from an award-winning actress -- Adult Video News' selection for best group sex scene -- in the immortal Butt Pirates of the Caribbean.
Townsend, in his first year as Kansas assistant after coaching stints at Southern Cal, Michigan, California, and Eastern Kentucky, has yet to comment on the seats, but already Kansas' rivals are having an Internet field day with the decision.
According to his Kansas bio, Townsend is married to the former Linda Woodson. He has five children: Tanika, Marques, Keisha, Kaliyah and Myka.
What do we know about Samantha Ryan's college fandom? Well, she wanted to spend her 32nd birthday in Lawrence, Kan., and she's still upset at Roy Williams for leaving, "Roy was center of our world when I was @ KU but he left @ a time that broke our hearts. Poor timing was like a stab n back," Ryan tweeted. Later, she tweeted Bill Self was a modern-day Superman, "Plus, Self has carried on the tradition even better than Williams did so in the end, it's all about BILL SELF! Woot!"
Woot indeed.
Almost as woot-worthy as Ms. Ryan's turn as director in 2007. Her film debut Sorority Sluts: Iota Eta Pi proved that college and porn go together like milk and cookies.
Efforts to reach out to Townsend were, predictably, unsuccessful. Although FanHouse did leave a message for him and for the Kansas media relations office. We'll update when they release a statement.
Until then, all we know for certain is this: The dearly-departed Wilt Chamberlain approved.
Update (3/05/10): According to the University Daily Kansan, Associate Athletics Director Jim Marchiony said it was a harmless act and no punishment will come of it. "He was trying to be a good guy to a KU alum, and he was," Marchiony said. "That kind of thing happens to all of us in athletics. ... Many times your reaction is, 'Hey, yeah. Give me a call and if there are tickets available they are available."
Townsend told the Daily Kansan that he didn't see her at the game and hadn't seen her since.
