Anquan Boldin's long-anticipated exit from Arizona -- which essentially began before the Cardinals even started their Super Bowl run two years ago -- has finally come to an end. The wide receiver is headed to Baltimore as part of a trade agreed to Friday.ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported that the Cardinals have traded Boldin to the Ravens, along with a 2010 fifth-round draft pick, for the Ravens 2010 third- and fourth-round picks in 2010 -- meaning Arizona only slightly exceeded anyone's expectations for what it could get in return for Boldin.
Also according to Schefter, Boldin quickly agreed upon a three-year, $25 million contract extension with the Ravens. Boldin's current contract runs for one more season at $3 million.
It was thought that Arizona might be able to fetch a second-rounder, once rumors that the Patriots and Chiefs had entered the running (thereby theoretically boosting Boldin's value). But in the end, it appears that Baltimore's willingness to top all offers with an upgrade to a fourth-round pick, in addition to the expected third-rounder, was the maximum return.
Baltimore can now turn its attention to re-signing veteran Derrick Mason, who is an unrestricted free agent, as well as fellow UFA Kevin Walter.
