The Falcons entered the offseason very much in need of secondary help. They didn't take long to find some. According to multiple reports, Atlanta has reached a deal with ex-Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson. Both the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and ESPN are reporting that it will be a six-year contract and will be signed some time this weekend. No financial details were immediately available -- Robinson made $9.57 million as a franchised player last year, but turned down an extension from the Texans.
Houston then released Robinson prior to this offseason's free-agency period.
Robinson, who turns 28 in April, is a Georgia native and figures to be the Falcons' No. 1 cornerback -- despite suffering through a trying 2009 season. Robinson had zero interceptions last year and his mediocre performance on the field played a major hand in Houston's decision to let him walk.
Atlanta gave up 3,871 yards passing during the 2009 regular season, the fifth-worst mark in the league.
