Karlos DansbyAs NFL free agency began at the stroke of midnight (Eastern time, of course) Friday, players started to plot out visits ahead of striking it rich on new contracts.

For some players, these visits are nothing but a formality. They've made up their mind on where they want to go, with no influence from the teams of course (that would be tampering, after all).

Other players have no real idea what they want to do. They're going to take their time in free agency, and try to figure out which team is a good fit for them, both from an on-field and off-field standpoint.

Soon enough, we'll find out which category linebacker Karlos Dansby falls into.

Dansby told ESPN very early Friday morning that he was making a visit to Miami later that day. Surely, this item coincides with the start of free agency happening about 10 minutes before Dansby's national television appearance.

That doesn't mean Dansby is a lock to sign with the Dolphins, but these guys often know what they're doing ahead of planning their visits. If you're a fan of a team like the Giants or Chicago, and you were hoping to land Dansby, this might not be a good sign.

Of course, he might just be leveraging for a better deal from the team he really wants to play for. That's just how free agency works.

Even though he's a pretty consistent player, Dansby, 28, knows this could be his last great shot at a big payday. With a good chunk of teams appearing that they want to spend gobs of money in this uncapped year, guys like Dansby would be smart to play the system for all it's worth.
