Major defensive pieces are falling into place on the first day of free agency, and the latest news has Karlos Dansby joining the Miami Dolphins. According to The Miami Herald, Dansby has agreed to a contract worth $43 million for five years, with $22 million guaranteed. He is expected to finalize the deal sometime this weekend.

The move makes Dansby the third-highest paid linebacker in the league in 2010. He'll slide into the middle of Miami's 3-4 defense and play next to Channing Crowder, strengthening the Dolphins defense immensely.

Dansby spent the first six years of his career in Arizona, starting 90 of a possible 96 games since being selected in the second round of the 2004 draft. He racked up 25.5 sacks, 10 interceptions and 12 forced fumbles during his time with the Cardinals. He was viewed as the best linebacker and second-best defender on the market this offseason.

He'll take over for Akin Ayodele, who was released earlier in the day. Ayodele had no sacks, no interceptions, once forced fumble and just 71 total tackles in 16 games last season.
