Former Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle, one of the biggest unrestricted free agents on the market, is on the verge of completing a deal with the New York Giants, an NFL source with knowledge of the situation told FanHouse.Rolle was released by the Cardinals on Thursday, so that Arizona could sidestep a $4 million roster bonus owed him on March 5.
Several teams were immediately believed to have interest in Rolle, 27. He would make sense for the Giants given the team's struggles on defense last season and the uncertain health status of safety Kenny Phillips, who missed the last 14 games of New York's 2009 season with a left knee injury.
Rolle, 27, made four interceptions and 72 tackles last season for the Cardinals, his fifth season with the team and in the league. He has 12 career interceptions.
The Bears and Dolphins are also believed to be in play for Rolle, as are the Cardinals, who would like to re-sign the veteran under a different contract.
