Chris ChambersThrough seven weeks of the 2009 NFL season, wide receiver Chris Chambers looked like he was on his last legs -- he made just nine catches in that time frame, only one for a TD.

But then San Diego released Chambers, Kansas City claimed him and immediately plugged him into the starting lineup, and the 31-year-old was reborn.

In nine games with K.C., Chambers made 36 catches for 601 yards and four touchdowns, the best numbers he'd put up in several years. And as a result of those efforts, the Chiefs rewarded Chambers. Kansas City re-signed the unrestricted free agent Monday to a three-year, $15 million contract with $5.9 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Kansas City confirmed the signing, though not the financial details.

With Chambers and fellow starting WR Dwayne Bowe back next year, along with the re-signed Terrance Copper, Kansas City has developed some continuity amongst a decent receiving corps. Should the Chiefs add a receiver in the draft, as many expect they will, quarterback Matt Cassel could find himself with an abundance of weapons to throw to.

Chambers' re-signing also further dilutes a rapidly dwindling free-agent class at WR. Along with Kevin Walter and Nate Burleson, Chambers was considered one of the better unrestricted free agent receiver options.
