On March 1, four-time heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield, and 45-year-old Bernard Hopkins, whose 20-title defenses is a middleweight (160 pounds) record, were licensed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, commission director, Keith Kizer, told FanHouse on March 2.

Kizer said that Holyfield (42-10-2, 27 knockouts) has been granted a one-bout license to pursue the fringe WBF title on April 10 against 41-year-old Francois Botha (47-4-3, 28 KOs) at the Thomas & Mack Center as opposed to the Orleans Hotel where it was originally scheduled to appear.

Hopkins (50-5-1, 32 knockouts), meanwhile, has been given an unlimited license, said Kizer, and is set to face 41-year-old Roy Jones (50-4-6, 40 KOs) in an April 3 rematch of their 1993 clash won by Jones. Their bout is slated for the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

Now, however, Botha (pictured above) and Jones must be licensed, said Kizer, subject to the approval of the commission's five-vote panel on March 17.

Another fighter who must be approved on that day is 36-year-old junior middleweight (154 pounds) Cornelius Bundrage (29-4, 17 KOs), of Detroit, who is scheduled to challenge 32-year-old southpaw, IBF titlist, Cory Spinks (37-5, 11 KOs), of St. Louis, Mo., on March 26 at the Treasure Island in Las Vegas.

"Roy Jones was missing a couple of things, so we couldn't handle his matter at the last commission meeting when we handled his opponent, Mr. Hopkins. Roy was missing the chest X-ray and the EKG, but those papers came in either Tuesday or Wednesday of last week," said Kizer, whose commission has special rules for "Comprehensive fighters," meaning those who were born in 1974 or earlier.

"Every fighter needs the eye test, the bloodwork and the physical. But if you're a comprehensive fighter, meaning that you were born in 1974 or earlier, you need a more detailed physical, like a chest X-ray, an EKG, and there's some additional urinalysis, so you have to get all of that stuff done in addition to the normal physical," said Kizer.

"Botha had gotten his in as well, last week, and they're both good to go on March 17, which will be in the afternoon," said Kizer."Any other comprehensive fighters who have upcoming fights that we haven't already seen will be on the agenda as well."
