Emmitt Smith Thinks Dan Snyder Is Prideful, Arrogant

Emmitt Smith is not an eloquent speaker. That was abundantly clear every time he appeared on live television and used a bunch of made-up words.

But you don't need the Enigma machine to understand that the former Cowboys running back really despises Redskins owner Dan Snyder. In an interview last Friday with Slam, Emmitt got right to the point.

SLAM: What team did you most enjoy defeating? Redskins? Giants? Eagles?

ES: [Smiles.] Yeah, yeah, I loved defeating the Redskins. I loved it, I loved it, I loved it with a passion. And I loved it more when Daniel Snyder got the team, for a number of reasons. I did. Because here is a guy who thought he could build a football team just because he has the money to buy players. There's more to it than that. And he's not a compassionate person, not a compassionate person at all from what I understand. And that makes me just want to pummel somebody. You know, you hate to see pride, wearing itself on his forehead and his chest. And to me, arrogance sticks out like a sore thumb when you talk about him. And the lack of compassion for others is a problem. Because it's not that hard to be compassionate; you just choose to.

Okay, so maybe it requires some decoding, but you get the gist of it: Emmitt's not a big fan of pride, particularly when worn on or about the head. And sometimes the chest. Such acts makes Emmitt want to pummel somebody. And don't get him started on arrogance.

Messenger aside, I think most people (and especially Redskins fans) feel similarly about Snyder. Maybe he's a swell guy and it's unfair. But it's hard to get behind someone who, intentions aside, has everything to do with the current state of the team.
