Ari Fleischer, the former presidential advisor to George W. Bush, is joining Team Tiger. At least, according to a report in the New York Post, that's the latest step in Tiger Woods' impending return to the PGA Tour.
It would not be as strange a partnership as it might sound.
Fleischer operates a sports communications firm, and is in a joint venture with IMG Sports & Entertainment. Woods is represented by IMG.
Fleischer focuses on crisis response and control, and worked with disgraced baseball slugger Mark McGwire.
According to the Post story, Fleischer, who served as presidential press secretary from January 2001 to July 2003, is being brought on board in preparation for Woods' return to action at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at the Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, Fla., in two weeks.
The newspaper reported Woods and Fleischer have already met to plan the return.
"They were in his living room this week going over a strategy for how to handle Bay Hill in two weeks," an unnamed source was quoted as saying.
The NFL and Major League Baseball also are among Fleischer's clients. He advised the Packers in 2008 on dealing with the fallout created by their breakup with Brett Favre and the BCS to help shape college football's national championship game image.
