Former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, shown here last summer in Washington, D.C., was hospitalized during a visit to South Korea.

Kissinger, 86, is recovering and is not considered in serious condition, Choi Kingdegar, a spokesman at Yonsei University's Severance Hospital in Seoul, told the financial Web site Bloomberg. The Yonhap news agency reported Kissinger was admitted after complaining about feeling stomach pain.

"As of now, former secretary Kissinger is admitted and receiving treatment. His condition is improving and he is not in serious condition," a hospital official told Yonhap.

Aaron Tarver, a U.S. embassy spokesman, told Agence France-Presse that he understood Kissinger was admitted to the hospital with stomach flu and was recovering.

Kissinger, who was secretary of state during the Nixon and Ford administrations, came to Seoul on Wednesday to speak at a security forum and meet President Lee Myung-bak.
