KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Trying to beat Kansas State for a third time this season was supposed to be monumental task for the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks.

But the Jayhawks, capable of getting points from anywhere on the floor, again proved why they are the most dominant team in the nation's top conference as they pulled away from Kansas State in the second half for a 72-64 win in the Big 12 championship.

Kansas, which also won the Big 12 regular-season title, receives the conference's automatic NCAA tournament bid and should be the presumptive No.1 overall seed in next week's tournament.

Much of the credit will go to Big 12 tournament MVP Sherron Collins, who lifted the Jayhawks with 12 points and seven assists, but it was the performance of role players like twins Marcus and Marfieff Morris along with Tyrel Reed that made the difference Saturday.

Marcus led the way with 18 points, while Reed came off the bench to contribute 15 points.

The second-seeded Wildcats were led in scoring by Denis Clemente's 17 points, while Jacob Pullen added 13 points and forward Jamar Nelson came off the bench to contribute 14 points.

GAME BALL GOES TO:
Twins Marcus and Markieff Morris both had outstanding games and generally were the difference inside. Marcus scored 18 points, while Markief came off the bench to contribute 7 points, which included 5 of 6 shooting from the free throw line.

KEY ELEMENT:
The difference in this was definitely in the disparity at the free throw line. The Jayhawks shot 31 free throws and made 24 of them. K-State converted 8 of 14 from the line.

WHERE TO FROM HERE:
The Jayhawks, winners of both the regular-season and Big 12 tournament, head home to await the announcement they will be the No.1 seed in the NCAA tournament out of the Midwest.

The Wildcats, meanwhile, entered this week's league tournament with a slim chance to make a case for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament but they will end up a No.2 seed.
