Brian RobertsUPDATE: The Orioles still feel Roberts will be ready for Opening Day, and aren't actively pursuing a fill-in at second base, a major league source told FanHouse's Ed Price.

The Brian Roberts injury saga continues. Tuesday, the Orioles' All-Star second baseman returned to Sarasota, Fla. and rejoined his team. He had been back in Baltimore to receive an examination and some treatment on his ailing back.

His return to the team, however, does not mean all is well and good with Roberts. He's received an epidural injection in his lower back which is intended to help ease the pain from a herniated disk. He will have to wait several days to see if the shot works.

In the meantime, the Orioles are not denying their interest in pursuing a trade to possibly fill in for Roberts, who has not been healthy enough to take part in one single exhibition game this Spring.

The in-house options are Ty Wigginton, Robert Andino and Justin Turner. None of them are overly inspiring, as Wigginton is easily the best hitter -- but also the worst defender at second. That's likely why team president Andy MacPhail is talking about outside help.

The Baltimore Sun gave a long list of players who might be available that the Orioles might pursue, but there is no definite word on whether or not MacPhail or the other team is interested at this point. The list included, but was not limited to: Mike Fontenot, Jeff Baker, Delwyn Young, Alexi Casilla, Jayson Nix, Alberto Callaspo, Mark Grudzielanek and Augie Ojeda. Again, though, these names seemed like more educated speculation than actual confirmed interest.

Obviously, the best-case scenario for the Orioles is that Roberts responds quickly to the epidural and is able to join the team quite soon.
