Philadelphia has agreed to a one-year deal with restricted free agent running back Mike Bell, according to multiple reports. New Orleans, which placed a "right of first refusal" tender on Bell, has seven days to match the Eagles' offer or let Bell walk. That level tender does not come with any compensation, meaning that the Saints would receive no draft picks from the Eagles in return for Bell.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and Scout.com's Adam Caplan both reported that the Eagles have offered Bell $1.7 million with incentives that could push the contract above $2 million for 2010. According to Caplan, Bell would receive $500,000 of that in guaranteed money.
Bell is the only restricted free agent to sign an offer sheet this offseason.
The Eagles are in need of a backup running back behind LeSean McCoy -- Philadelphia released veteran Brian Westbrook in February. Westbrook has not signed elsewhere yet.
Bell is just 26 and coming off his fourth NFL season, two with Denver and the last two with New Orleans. On the Super Bowl-winning Saints in 2009, Bell carried the ball 172 times for 652 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season. He'll likely compete for goal-line carries with McCoy.
New Orleans, should it let Bell leave, would likely slide Lynell Hamilton into Bell's role. Hamilton played nine games and amassed 125 yards rushing for the Saints last season.
