Super middleweight (168 pounds) contender, Edison Miranda (33-4, 29 KOs) will face southpaw IBF champ, Lucian Bute (25-0, 20 KOs) on April 17 on the titlists' home turf of Canada, but the challenger, in truth, has been battling for his life since early childhood.

One month after his birth, Miranda (pictured at right, standing) said he was abandoned by his mother, who left him to abusive caretakers. Miranda wound up living on the streets, where, at the age of 15, he began dreaming of becoming a boxer. Miranda thrived in the ring, winning 128 of 132 amateur fights and earning a Colombian National title. Miranda talks about the early days of his life, when he had only a pair of pants and a pair of shoes.
