Eric BledsoeNEW ORLEANS -- It was far from flawless but more than enough as No. 1 seed Kentucky easily dispatched No. 16 East Tennessee State, 100-71, during Thursday night's NCAA tournament opening round game at the New Orleans Arena.

A lights-out shooting night for the Wildcats set the tone as they shot nearly 52 percent from the field for the game, which including a 59 percent showing in the opening half. Freshman point guard John Wall only attempted seven shots the entire night, but then again he didn't need to shoot more with players like freshman guard Eric Bledsoe and junior forward Patrick Patterson handling most of the scoring.

Bledsoe led the Wildcats with a career-high 29 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field, including 8-of-9 shooting from 3-point range. Patterson, facing an undersized Buccaneers team, scored 22 points and pulled down five rebounds. Wall finished with 17 points and 11 assists for his fifth double-double of the year..

The Bucs, the Atlantic Sun Conference champions, were led by guard Micah Williams' 19 points. Four players scored in double figures for ETSU, including Justin Tubbs (15) and Lukas Sollazzo had 14 points off the bench.

The Wildcats move on to the second round where they will face the winner of the Texas-Wake Forest late first-round game during Saturday's second round of the East Regional.

UK coach John Calipari will certainly want to limit the 14 turnovers the Wildcats committed and they will need to be stronger on the boards where they held just a 44-40 edge on the Bucs.

GAME BALL GOES TO
Freshman guard Bledsoe had an impressive night with a team-high 29 points on 9 of 11 shooting to lead the Wildcats. Bledsoe knocked down 8 of 9 from 3-point range while also coming up with four steals defensively.

KEY ELEMENT
The Wildcats' shooting. They were on fire all night, converting nearly 52 percent of their shots from the field. Kentucky shot an insane 59 percent from the floor in the first half, which including a showing 7 of 14 success rate from 3-point range to take a 54-26 lead into halftime.

WHERE TO FROM HERE
The Wildcats were never in any jeopardy of being the first No. 1 seed to succumb to a No. 16 seed despite the close early score. Kentucky looks talented enough to go all the way to the Final Four, but we'll see.

WHO'S GOT NEXT?
Kentucky takes on the winner of the late game between No. 8 seed Texas and No. 9 Wake Forest during Saturday's second round of the tournament.
