Joslyn TinkleJoslyn Tinkle has it all worked out with her humanities professors. The Stanford freshman was a little worried. But it turns out her professor is a big basketball fan.

And he's from Montana.

Tinkle has rescheduled her final exam Thursday in order to be in the stands that night at HP Pavilion in San Jose to watch her father's team, Montana, playing in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Wayne Tinkle is in his fourth season as Montana's men's basketball head coach and will be making his first appearance in the NCAA tournament with the Grizzlies.

It will be his daughter's first appearance in the NCAA tournament as well. Joslyn Tinkle is a reserve forward for the Cardinal, the top seed in the Sacramento Regional.

"I don't know how it worked out this way, but I'm not complaining," Joslyn Tinkle said. "I was hoping they would end up here. It's great."Joslyn Tinkle has had plenty of family time this week. She watched her father's team practice at Stanford, had dinner with her parents and the team, hung out with her mom, Lisa, all while getting through final exams and practicing for the NCAA tournament.

Stanford opens the tournament on Saturday at Maples Pavilion against UC Riverside. If Montana, a No. 14 seed, upsets No. 3 seed New Mexico, the Grizzlies will be playing in direct conflict with Stanford's game.

What's a mother to do?

Joslyn Tinkle said her mom will be at Maples.

"I'm a mommy's girl," Tinkle said. "I won't have to beg her too much."

Tinkle has taken a supporting role in the Cardinal's dominant post rotation. Her season got off to a slow start when a stress fracture put her out of the lineup for the first four games of the season.

She started three games late this season (at Cal and during the Pac-10 Tournament) while senior center Jayne Appel recovered from a sprained ankle. Those extended minutes could come in handy for the Cardinal during the tournament, should one of their "Big Three" -- Appel, and forwards Nneka Ogwumike and Kayla Pedersen -- get into foul trouble.

"I've got some confidence going," Tinkle said. "It was very tough adjusting after the beginning of the year, thrown into it without playing for a couple of months. But getting this opportunity, it'd definitely making me more comfortable."
