Glen Rice JrMILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- Charity begins at home and Georgia Tech demonstrated as much by shooting 24 of 25 from the charity stripe as the Yellow Jackets outlasted Oklahoma State 64-49.

Seven different Tech players shot free throws and only one, Iman Shumpert, missed in this nip-and-tuck 7-10 battle. Shumpert was 7 of 8 from the line, though, leading the Yellow Jackets in conversions and attempts. With the victory the Yellow Jackets became the eighth double-digit seed to win an opening round game in this year's NCAA tournament.

The game had been billed as a duel between two potential early-entry NBA lottery picks, guard James Anderson of Oklahoma State and freshman power forward Derrick Favors of Georgia Tech. While Favors (12 points, seven rebounds) helped Tech dominate on the interior, Anderson was held scoreless for most of the second half. The nation's third-leading scorer (22.6 points per game) finished with a quiet 11 points on 3 of 12 shooting.

Oklahoma State led 36-31 at the half thanks to the dead-eye shooting of 5-foot-9 Keiton Page (10 points at the half), but the Yellow Jackets scored the first five points of the latter period to tie the score. From there neither team led by more than four until the final seconds.
The Cowboys' Anderson and Page, the game's two leading scorers at the half, combined for just seven points after the intermission. Georgia Tech limited Oklahoma State to just 23 points and one offensive rebound in the second half.

Page hit a 3-pointer with 1:40 remaining -- his only shot after halftime -- to pull the Cowboys within 60-59. On the ensuing possession, Georgia Tech was able to grab an offensive rebound and take nearly a minute off the clock before a foul on Page sent Shumpert to the line. He buried both free throws.

A last-ditch drive by Anderson, who scored just one field goal in the second half, resulted in a turnover. Georgia Tech closed out the scoring with two more free throws.

The Yellow Jackets advance Sunday to play the winner of Friday night's second game in Milwaukee between Midwest region No. 2 seed Ohio State and No. 15 UC-Santa Barbara.
