Maltese-born Canadian wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Mike "Baron Mikel" Scicluna passed away yesterday after a lengthy bout against liver cancer at the age of 80.

Scicluna is most famous for his matches against Bruno Sammartino and his work in the seventies for the then-WWWF (now World Wrestling Entertainment). He held a version of the tag team championships with King Curtis and the IWA tag titles with Smasher Sloan. Scicluna is also a part of wrestling history for being the opponent of Gorilla Monsoon on the night Monsoon clashed with boxing great Muhammad Ali.

The Baron retired in 1984 and was part of the WWE's 1996 class of inductees into their pro wrestling hall of fame.
