We get to know NHL players with some quick questions. Today we meet San Jose Sharks forward Ryane Clowe.

What are your earliest hockey memories?

When I was about 6ish, my mom wanted me to take part in hockey. I didn't like it. When I first started, I couldn't skate. It was so frustrating. But I stuck with it. I remember being about 10 and my dad taking me on a road trip to Montreal to see a game.

What's the best part of playing in the NHL?

Obviously, the best part is that you've achieved your dream, the dream to play in the NHL. And also the camaraderie and the friends you meet, you become so tight. It's such a special bond.

The worst part?

How can there be a worst part? We fly charter, we stay in nice hotels. We can't whine.

Do you have any pregame routines or rituals?

Obviously, like everyone, the pregame meal and a nap. And I always spray-paint the blades of my sticks and I kiss my sticks before the game. I've got to take care of my sticks.

And do they return the favor?

If they don't, I crack 'em up.

Which player would you most like to put a good, clean, hard hit on?

Steve Ott. Or Ryan Kesler. They're the kinds of guys who are kind of pains in the rear to play against. They get under your skin.

Which teammate, past or present, do you most admire?

Rob Blake is a good leader, professional, a real pro. He comes to work every day. It's actually tough to say, because this is such a good group altogether. Before that, Scott Thornton -- he was great to me when I was young, helped me out a lot.

What did you do during the Olympic break?

Everyone else went someplace like Hawaii. I went home to Newfoundland. It's the first time I've been there this time of year for a long time.
