TAMPA, Fla. -- Alex Rodriguez's reported meeting with the federal investigators on Friday in Buffalo never happened, but the Yankees slugger said he still expects to talk to them soon. The meeting was reportedly rescheduled to avoid a media circus.
A grand jury is investigating Canadian doctor Anthony Galea, who is accused of being involved with performance-enhancing drugs. Rodriguez was seen by the doctor, although he hasn't been accused of getting any PEDs from the doctor. It was widely reported that Rodriguez was going to be in Buffalo, and manager Joe Girardi even said that he didn't think Rodriguez would be at the game on Friday night in Tampa.
But Rodriguez was on the field at the same time as the rest of his teammates on Friday afternoon. Girardi was evasive, refusing to answer any questions about when Rodriguez had returned, and the reasons for his evasiveness became clear about an hour later, when Rodriguez said he hadn't left Florida.
Rodriguez didn't say why he hadn't gone, and he wouldn't even confirm that he was supposed to go. He just said the matter is still pending."We're going to continue to work together and cooperate," he said. "I'm going to talk to the Feds and Major League Baseball shortly."
Asked later when the meeting might happen, Rodriguez said: "Hopefully it will be done by Opening Day, and we can move on."
