Eugenio Velez Wears San 'Francicso' Giants Jersey

Eugenio VelezWhen Eugenio Velez took the field late in the Giants' 10-4 win over the Astros this afternoon, he unknowingly represented the non-existent city of "San Francicso." At least, that's what it said on his jersey, which transposed the final "c" and "s" in the name of the Giants' home town of San Francisco.

Unlike the ridiculous "Natinal" incident of 2009, when Adam Dunn and Ryan Zimmerman took the field in jerseys that didn't quite say "Nationals" on the front, no one seemed to notice the typo on Velez's jersey until well after the game when an AP reporter pointed it out to him.

I can't say for sure why that is, but it probably has something to do with everyone liking to make Nationals' jokes and because "Francisco" is a little harder to spell than "Natinal." In any case, one thing I learned from the Nats' wardrobe malfunction last year is that this sort of mistake originates with the jersey supplier. There are obviously a lot of eyeballs that see each jersey as they make their way from Majestic through the Giants clubhouse, though, so there's plenty of blame to go around.

After sweeping the Astros by an aggregate score of 18-6 in the season's first three games, I'm sure the Giants are happy that this mildly embarrassing snafu is the worst thing to happen to them so far in the 2010 season.
