Man Arrested for Allegedly Threatening Nancy Pelosi
Gregory Giusti, 48, was arrested around 12:15 p.m. and was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in San Francisco at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Patti Hansen, a spokeswoman for the FBI in San Francisco, told AOL News.
Hansen said the charges were under seal, and, therefore, she could not comment on them.
"We take threats against elected officials very seriously," she said.
The Associated Press, citing law enforcement sources, said Giusti allegedly made dozens of calls to Pelosi's homes in California and Washington and to her husband's office. He spoke to the congresswoman at least once and recited her address and warned that if she wanted to see it again she was to oppose the recently enacted bill, the AP reported.
Pelosi's spokesman Brendan Daly issued a statement this evening saying: "The Speaker thanks the FBI, the Capitol Hill Police, House Sergeant at Arms, and other law enforcement officials for their professionalism in this matter. She will have no further comment at this time."
The arrest is part of the public backlash from anti-health care citizens.
Some of the threats have been aimed at anti-abortion Democrat Bart Stupak, D-Mich., who eventually supported the health care measure.
According to CBS, one threat left on Stupak's voice mail included this: "Congressman Stupak, you baby-killing motherf***er. ... I hope you bleed out your a**, got cancer and die, you motherf***er."
