Within about 24 hours of learning he was being traded to the New York Jets, former Steelers wide receiver Santonio Holmes has been suspended without pay for the first four regular season games of the 2010 season. Word of the suspension first broke Sunday night, but was made official on NFL Network Monday afternoon. Holmes, 26, has received the ban for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He has been in trouble in the past with marijuana possession, but there's no word just yet on what particular substance led to the suspension. In fact, there may not have been a positive test at all. Players can be suspended for missing scheduled tests.
The Super Bowl XLIII MVP caught 79 passes for 1,240 yards and five touchdowns last season, but has had problems staying completely out of trouble. Just over a month ago, a woman alleged that Holmes threw a full drink (glass and all) at her, though recently, a different man has come forward and admitted he was the one who threw the glass.
