On Monday, Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger appeared before the media unshaven, unkempt and sporting a mullet. He didn't exactly look the part of contrite athlete hoping to quickly put the latest accusations of sexual assault behind him. A day later, Roethlisberger showed up in New York to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Apparently, someone had the good sense to pull Ben aside and say, "Hey, you know what? You looked like a fat slob reading that statement. How about you clean yourself up before meeting with the guy who's going to decide your professional fate?"
And the message took: as Roethlisberger emerged from an SUV outside the NFL's Manhattan offices, his wig had been trimmed (before-and-after shots above) and he was wearing a suit.
Naturally, TMZ was there.
There's speculation that one way or the other -- either by Goodell's decree or through the Steelers organization -- Roethlisberger will be suspended for one or two games next season.
