Roto Rush: Jorge Cantu Sets Record

If you'll remember, the Marlins' Jorge Cantu was rumored to be moving to first base this spring if neither Gaby Sanchez or Logan Morrison did a good enough job. Luckily, Sanchez won the job at first and Cantu was able to stay at third base where he wouldn't have to go through any adjustments. Being comfortable seems to be working for Cantu.

Cantu went 1-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday, which in and of itself isn't a huge accomplishment. However, it's become old hat to Cantu -- currently hitting .297 with three home runs -- who set a major league record by hitting safely and recording an RBI in each of his team's first nine games. Cantu's record goes all the way back to 1920 when Major League Baseball began tracking the RBI stat.

Cantu's hot start has led the Marlins to their second-place standing within the NL East division, but the third baseman told Joe Capozzi of The Palm Beach Post that he's only been focusing on getting on base, not setting records.

All week, Jorge Cantu had heard question after question about his RBI streak. But when he came to bat with the bases empty in the fifth inning Wednesday night, he insists he wasn't thinking about trying to make history.

"It hit me when I was rounding the bases," said Cantu, who also has a hit in all nine Marlins games this year. "It's a little bit surreal. It's like, 'Wow I've accomplished something really big.' "
Bits from the Box Scores:

• There is nothing to fear in Florida regarding Leo Nunez. He pitched on three consecutive days prior to Wednesday and needed a break. That's why Burke Badenhop recorded a save for the Marlins.

Colby Lewis matched his career best with ten strikeouts on Wednesday and also improved to 2-0. He is the proud owner of a 2.19 ERA, even if his two good starts came against the anemic offenses of Seattle and Cleveland.

Shane Victorino shined in the leadoff role -- a slot he'll occupy for the next two-to-four weeks while Jimmy Rollins is on the DL -- going 4-for-5 with a home run and five RBI.

Chase Utley blasted two home runs on Wednesday and drove in four. Is there anything that this guy can't do?

Carlos Quentin knocked in six on Wednesday and hit a grand slam. This is the kind of output a healthy Quentin is capable of.

• Spreading just two hits over seven innings on Wednesday, John Danks impressed with his second sterling outing. He's also striking out almost a batter per inning.

The Afflicted: Kelly Johnson left the Arizona game on Wednesday with back stiffness. Check out news from the desert before you insert him into your lineup. Brian Fuentes and Mike Gonzalez both hit the disabled list on Wednesday and the Angels and Orioles promoted set-up guys to closers temporarily. Trevor Cahill has another bullpen session to complete before he is shipped off to Triple-A Sacramento for rehab on his shoulder. That start in Sacramento should come on Monday. Michael Wuertz is scheduled to make a rehab appearance on Friday at Triple-A Sacramento. If your league uses holds or you like relievers who provide strikeouts, keep Wuertz on your radar. Ted Lilly completed a successful rehab start on Wednesday and needs to make one more before returning to the Cubs rotation. Fantasy owners can lightly pencil him in for an April 24th return to the big leagues.

Locking Your Lineup: Texas and Cleveland is an abnormally early start on Thursday. Get your rosters set by 12:05 p.m. EST.
