Fan Who Puked on 11-Year-Old Girl Is 'Not a Monster,' According to Uncle

In the time it took Matthew Clemmens to projectile vomit all over an 11-year-old girl at a Phillies game last week, he went from wannabe karaoke star to drunk miscreant. The 21-year-old was arrested and held on $12,000 bail.

But to hear Clemmens' relatives talk about him, he's been miscast as the villain. He's not some fat kid who got plastered and threw up all over a family trying to enjoy a baseball game. In the words of his uncle Dave Clemmens, he's just "My nephew is a good boy, not a monster. He is just a kid who ate and drank too much at the game and got sick."
Dave Clemmens said he had not spoken with his nephew, who was held in a city jail on charges that include aggravated assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person. But the uncle said he was told the 11-year-old's father and two other men pummeled his nephew after the vomiting.

"They (the other fans) turned the story around and they said he started fighting them," the uncle said. "But how do you fight when you're puking?"

Hopefully Uncle Dave will represent his nephew in court. I think he has an air-tight case.

Back on Earth, the Phillies have invited the Vangelo family to another game in addition to buying them dinner. "I accepted, and I don't blame the organization for this incident," Michael Vangelo told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "The blame rests solely with Mr. [Matthew] Clemmens and his friend."

"Puke: Bringing Communities Together" is the new "City of Brotherly Love."
