After watching Aaron Rodgers get sacked 375 or so (maybe just 50) times last season, and then looking on in horror as a sack and fumble ended the Packers season in the NFC Wild Card Game loss to Arizona, general manager Ted Thompson had seen enough. When Iowa offensive tackle Bryan Bulaga fell in the first round, Thompson pounced, and he did it without having to trade up. Thompson took Bulaga with the No. 23 pick Thursday night.
Bulaga was an early entry to the draft, and impressed scouts with his strong pass-blocking skills and athleticism. There have been some rumblings about a poor work ethic, but he's a young player who won't have to start right away in Green Bay. The Packers have veteran tackles Mark Tauscher (right) and Chad Clifton (left), so Bulaga will likely have the chance to learn for at least a year before becoming a starter.
There are some thoughts that he will play guard in the NFL, but the Packers are also set there with Jason Spitz, Daryn Colledge, and Josh Sitton all capable of starting.
