When Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford went down in the Red River Shootout against Texas, no one knew how the shoulder injury he suffered would impact him. In the end, all is well, as Bradford was selected No. 1 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams.

"You have no idea how excited I am just to have the opportunity to come to St. Louis and play my NFL career there," Bradford said in a conference call. "It's just a blessing and I can't wait to get there and get to work."

The premature end to his last season of college football allowed Bradford to begin preparing for the jump to the pros. He made the most of his time, bulking up and showing at his workouts that he is more than ready for the NFL.

The Rams -- who finished a league-worst 1-15 in 2009 and have just six wins in the last three years -- were sold. They're prepared to guarantee Bradford upwards of $50 million, and then hand him the keys to a franchise that has definitely fallen on hard times. For Bradford, who stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 236 pounds, it's likely he will take over as the starting quarterback immediately, and he will become the face of the Rams.

He completed 67 percent of his throws over two-plus seasons at Oklahoma, and his 88-16 touchdown-interception ratio is certainly impressive. He has a big-enough arm, has demonstrated that it's healthy, and as long as he can learn to take better care of his body and avoid the kind of hits that knocked him out of the lineup last year, Bradford should be just fine at the next level.

St. Louis is 6-42 since a somewhat promising 8-8 campaign that opened Scott Linehan's awful tenure as head coach. They haven't had a winning season since 2003.
