Former Florida State standout Myron Rolle, who took a previously untraveled road to the NFL Draft, finally heard his name called Saturday on the last pick of Round 6. Tennessee, which held a compensatory selection at No. 207, opted to use it on Rolle, a Rhodes Scholar who took the 2009 college football season off to study at Oxford.Rolle's decision to skip his senior season with the Seminoles to take on the Rhodes Scholar program raised a red flag for a whole host of teams -- those under the belief that Rolle's heart was not devoted fully to football. The Titans decided to take a chance.
"As far as the Rhodes Scholarship is concerned, I have a few minor things to finish up, but then we're good to go," Rolle said in an interview with ESPN immediately after being drafted.
Rolle was a standout safety for three seasons in Tallahassee, both on and off the field. He even completed a round of interviews for the Rhodes Scholar program on the same day as a Florida State game at Maryland in 2008 -- flying to Baltimore after completing the interview and arriving in the second quarter of a Seminoles victory.
He'll now try to latch on with the Titans.
"I can say now to my family, my friends and young people who look up to me as a role model that I'm a Rhodes Scholar and I've been drafted in the NFL," Rolle told ESPN.
Earlier in the week, Rolle sat down with FanHouse's Jordan Schultz for a two-part interview. You can watch that interview in its entirety below:
