If veteran experience proves to be the tipping point for the 2010 NFL season, the Washington Redskins could be in line for big things. The Redskins, who have have already added veterans like Donovan McNabb, Larry Johnson, Willie Parker, Philip Buchanon and Rex Grossman this offseason, signed 38-year-old wide receiver Joey Galloway on Wednesday.Galloway received a one year deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, who first reported the signing.
Washington will be the sixth stop during Galloway's soon-to-be 17-year career. He spent part of last season in Pittsburgh but saw no game action, after playing in three games with New England. Galloway had four starts in 2008 with Tampa Bay -- his time there Tampa did coincide with current Redskins general manager Bruce Allen's time there, a fact that may have facilitated this move.
Galloway does have 10,777 career receiving yards to his credit, as well as 77 touchdowns -- he has not found the end zone, though, since that '07 season. He's topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark in six seasons, three times each with Tampa and Seattle.
Should he make the team, Galloway would add a great deal of experience to the Redskins' receiving corps that struggled in 2009 and lost veteran slot guy Antwaan Randle El to Pittsburgh this offseason. Still, Galloway will have competition for a roster spot -- Santana Moss, Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly are locks to make the squad, Washington just drafted Terrence Austin last week.
The Redskins also added veteran WR Bobby Wade on Thursday, via a one-year deal, according to CSN Washington. Wade had 36 receptions for 367 yards and two TDs last season with Kansas City, but he started 26 games over 2007-08 in Minnesota, compiling nearly 1,300 yards receiving.
