PHOENIX -- When the Phoenix Suns announced their decision to wear their "Los Suns" jerseys for tonight's Game 2 in part as a protest of Arizona immigration law SB1070, there was some surprise at who was leading this charge. It was team owner Robert Sarver, a staunch member of the same Republican party that drafted and approved the bill. But one day after Sarver's idea was announced and followed by a divided and passionate reaction, the other well-known Republican in the organization chose to distance himself from the situation.
Jerry Colangelo, the Suns chairman and former owner from whom Sarver bought the team in 2004, chose not to comment on the issue when speaking with FanHouse by phone en route to the US Airways Center.
Share "No, I'm keeping myself out of that," said Colangelo, who is also the managing director for USA Basketball. "That's Robert and the Suns organization's position and decision, but I'm not going to comment. I don't think it would be appropriate."
